Rescue Company 1 is located at 940 Wyoming Ave. and is dispatched on all alarms in the city. In addition to fire suppression Rescue Co. 1 responds to all motor vehicle accidents, industrial accidents, rescue calls, and all other tasks demanded of a modern Rescue Company. C-30a the departments structural collapse truck is stored here as well as the repair and maintenance of the departments Self Contained Breathing Apparatus.
Prior to the creation of Rescue 1 this station was Engine Company 6. Engine 6 was one of the busiest companies in the city and was on all alarms. Additionally the Hydrant Division occupied the rear of the building with the facilities for repairing and maintaining the city’s fire hydrants. The original station was constructed in 1911 and groundbreaking for the current station was held on April 17, 1981.

The newest Rescue went into service in May 2009. Rescue 1 is a 2009 KME Heavy Duty Rescue. It is equiped with a Hale 250 gpm PTO Pump, 300 gallon UPF Poly Tank for water, 30 gallon UPF Poly Tank for foam and a 15kw Hydraulic Generator. Rescue 1 is also equiped with Holmatro Hydraulic Rescue Tools with Core Technology, a full compliment of Rescue Tools and Rope Rescue Equipment. Rescue Co. 1 has four firefighters assigned but is usually staffed by three.

In 1995 the Scranton Fire Department purchased an Emergency One Rescue Pumper with a 1500 gpm pump and a 500 gallon booster tank. It was equipped with a 10kw diesel generator and a full compliment of specialized rescue and extrication tools. This apparatus is still serving the Scranton Fire Department as a reserve Rescue and Engine.
This 1990 Sutphen was the first Rescue. The Scranton Fire Department received this Engine in mid 1990 and Rescue 1 went into service in July of that year. It is equiped with a 10kw diesel generator, a 1500 GPM pump and a 500 gallon booster tank. When serving as Rescue 1 it was equiped with Holmatro Hydralic tools, various vehicle rescue tools, rope rescue equipmnet and hand tools. This vehicle still serves the Fire Department as a reserve Engine.
