Updated On: Sep 09, 2016

On June 24, 2016 at 7:52 pm afire was reported at Kennedy Auto Garage on 1408 Cedar Ave.  Engine Co. 2, Engine Co. 4, Truck Co. 2, Rescue Co. 1 and Car 21 were dispatched.  Engine Co. 2 arrived on scene and the officer reported a heavy smoke condition, Car 21 activated the SRN which added Engine Co. 7, and Engine Co. 10 to the incident. A second alarm would be struck adding Engine Co. 8, Car 30, Car 26, Car 5, and the Fire Inspectors to the call. Conditions of the fire degraded quickly so a defensive operation was set up to contain the flames as they consumed the building, at one point the roof failed causing a front wall to collapse into the street.  It wasn't until 10 :51 pm that the fire was reported to be under control. Off duty personnel from C-Shift were called into to staff spare apparatus to provide protection to the city while the fire was taking place.  At 3:03 am the last company would finally clear from the scene.

One firefighter was injured while performing his duties, he was transported and treated at a local hospital

The Officer in Charge was Acting Assistant Chief, Capt. J. Cooney
