Busy Evening For A-Shift 5/22/2015

A-Shift firefighters would have a very busy evening on this day in May. At 5:45 pm Engine Co. 2 was sent on an investigation of a brush fire in the area of the cemetery bridges on I-81. The was found to be more that one brush fire extending from the area behind Skyview Apartments on Gibbons St. to Mountainview Care Center on Stafford ave. The officer on Engine 2 requested additional resources immediately. Car 21 sent Engine Co. 8 with Attack 1, Engine Co. 10 and Engine Co. 4. A water supply was established for Engine 4 and approximately a 1000' of hoses of various sizes were used along with Indian Packs and other tools to fight the fire. Later the only remaining engine company, Engine Co. 7 was requested, in addition off duty personnel were called in to staff spare apparatus. The fires were out and all companies cleared the scene by 10:25 pm.
At 10:55 pm a fire was reported at 1402 Jackson St. Engine Co. 7, Engine Co. 4, Rescue Co. 1, Truck Co. 2 and Car 21 were dispatched. Engine Co. 7 arrived on scene and the officer reported a two and a half story duplex with a working fire in the rear. Car 21 activated the SRN which added Engine Co. 8 and Engine Co. 2 to the scene. A 1 3/4" attack line was stretched from Engine 7 to beat back the flames. Fire Inspector #2 was called to the scene and by 1:34 am all companies were clear from the scene.
