Smokey Fire Near Bulls Head 3/22/2015
Updated On: Apr 15, 2015

At 2:28 pm on March 22, 2015 a fire was reported at 1431 Church Ave. near Bulls Head.  Engine Co. 8, Engine Co. 4, Rescue Co. 1, Truck Co. 2 and Car 21 were dispatched.  The officer of Engine Co. 4 reported that he can see smoke while en route, at this point Car 21 activated the SRN which added Engine Co. 7 and Engine Co. 2 to the incident.  Engine Co. 4 arrived on scene first and reported a heavy smoke condition, Engine Co. 8 established a water supply to Engine 4. C-Shift firefighters stretched multiple 1 3/4" attack hose lines to the building where they found a fully involved basement fire that had spread up the walls to the upper floors.  Attempts were made to stop the further spread of the flames but with the fire having the upper hand the decision was made to pull the crews out of the building and shift to a defensive mode.  A second alarm was toned out which added Engine Co. 10, Car 5, Car, 26, Car 30 and the Fire Inspectors to the call.  Off Duty A-shift personnel were called to staff spare apparatus to provide fire protection while this fire was going on.  Truck Co. 2 was put into operation along with the deluge gun of Engine 4 , once the flames were brought under control crews would again make entry to dig out hot spots.  The last company would return to service by 7:19 pm.

The Officer in Charge was Acting Assistant Chief, Captain E. Gallagher
